Champions are Readers
(CAR) Program
Pi Beta Phi's unique program, Champions are
Readers (CAR) is a month long reading program for third-grad elementary
students. CAR was designed to encourage students to develop daily reading
habits and to provide Fraternity
members with an easy-to-implement program
encouraging literacy.
For our local CAR
program, the Phoenix Alumnae Club purchased leveled books for readers
from Ohio State University. Third
graders at Creighton Elementary will receive a new book each session to
read with an alumnae club volunteer or Arizona Beta collegiate. By the end
of the program, each student will have eight books to add to his/her home
library. In addition, the alumnae club is providing each student
with a special book bag, and a writing journal.
