Champions are Readers (CAR) Program Needs Your Help!

Our wonderful Champions Are Readers  (or CAR) program that we host every February at Creighton Elementary School is underway and doing wonderfully!  For those of you that are unfamiliar, we volunteer at the three 3rd grade classrooms at Creighton throughout the month of February and encourage their literacy skills by allowing them to read aloud to us.  We do this program in conjunction with the Pi Phis from Arizona State university!  Creighton Elementary is located in Phoenix near 28th St and McDowell - 2802 E. McDowell Rd.

And we need your help!  WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!  The kids are very excited to see all our bright and shiny faces and I hope you all can help at some point in the next couple weeks.  Here are the days/times we need volunteers:

  • Friday, February 24th 2:45pm to 4pm
  • Monday, February 27th 2:45pm to 4pm
Please let us know if you are available to volunteer by emailing Kyleigh Merritt at president@phoenixpibetaphi.org.  This is a very rewarding experience to work with the kids! Thanks for all your help!

To enhance the Phoenix CAR program this year we are utilizing KEEP Books that were created based on literacy research by Ohio State University.  We are experiencing a lot of success with these books so far; the children seem to be responding to them really well.  The Phoenix Alumnae Club was asked to try out this program and report our experience to the national Fraternity.  This is something the Fraternity is considering using in the future.  Because of your generous donations, we were able to purchase this program for all 110 third grade students and they will all end up with 8 new books at the end of the program!  To find out more about KEEP Books visit www.keepbooks.org

Thanks so much for all of you that have helped so far this year!  It has been another amazing year at Creighton Elementary!
